I Enjoyed The Nintendo Direct mini That Everyone Else Hated

I find it funny how so many people expect the universe out of the glorified commercial that is the Nintendo Direct. Some of them are E3-level events that blow people’s minds with incredible announcements. However, most other Directs are just small updates that announce a couple things and contain a few trailers to hold us over for the next release. People tend to expect the former as they go into fits of anger and cynicism when they don’t see the exact games they want and don’t properly temper their expectations. This Nintendo Direct mini in particular exposes not only people’s ignorance to games like Cadence of Hyrule and Shin Megami Tensei, but also the never-ending hunger of Nintendo fans that simply want to feel the hype of games they might not even bother to play anyway.

As for me, knowing that Nintendo made it clear ahead of time that this Direct would be brief and not a super big deal, I was overjoyed in the games that I saw in both the Western and Japanese version of the Direct. Two announcements in particular got me very excited: the release window for Shin Megami Tensei V and the announcement of an HD remaster of Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. Y’know, the game that everyone confused for SMT V footage in their reactions because they have no idea what the series is, despite it being the inspiration for the Persona games and one of the greatest and most thought-provoking game franchises of all time? Yeah, that game. But oh well, you can’t expect everyone to play everything, so I won’t rag on them too hard.

I have a lot of thoughts about the reception that this particular Direct got, most of it negative surrounding the fan base and their anger about not being pandered to enough by this giant corporation. But, I think I’ll save it for a separate article or video. For now, I leave you with my reactions in the video above. I came out of it entertained and excited for what was announced. The wrestling game got a laugh out of me for sure.
